Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB) has carried out different colorful events on the occasion of celebrating Independence Day, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth anniversary and Club Day 2022 on Saturday.

University officials and students took part in the joyous celebration program on morning which began with the prayer for the martyrs, Bangabandhu and his family members. After hoisting the flag, NDUB family observed a minute of silence to pay tribute to the martyrs of liberation war.

Professor Dr Father Patrick Daniel Gaffney, CSC, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university presided the discussion session later.

He said, “We are doing many things on the occasion of this independence day. One of the main things we are doing is remembering the brave men and women who gave their lives gave their energy and who did what was necessary in that moment during liberation war to win the independence of Bangladesh from oppressive Pakistan.”

“Those sacrificing real heroes are our inspiration and we hope our students will hold the patriotism like them,” he added.

While addressing as the chief guest, Shyamal Dutta, Editor of Bangla Daily Dainik Bhorer Kagoj, inspired the students telling about the patriotism of Pritilata Waddedar.

Discussing on Bangabandhu’s life and struggle, the newspaper editor said, “Bangabandhu has heavy patriotism which he notified the nation through every decision of his life. He struggled for years to achieve the independence. His wife Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib inspired him a lot.”

He also said, Bangabandhu fueled the linguistics movement from 1948 which turned into the language movement in 1952.

Quoting Bangabandhu, he furthered, “If we do not get economic independence, our political independence is valueless. Crowd in front of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) trucks is showing that we need to achieve the economic independence in line with Bangabandhu’s dream.”

In the second session at afternoon, a colorful cultural program has been held in the university premises as part of club day celebration. All the seven existing clubs performed in the program while English Language Center along with the seven clubs installed stalls. Students decorated the stalls as well as the university area which created a jubilant environment, said a fourth-year student.

Dr Father Leonard Shankar Rozario, CSC, Registrar-In-Charge of the university voted thanks to all for participation.

He said, “NDUB always motivates students in co-curricular activities. Clubs are formed for these activities. We hope that the experience of participating in such programs will motivate and help students adapting with the future competitive world.”
